Content Writer – Phonics

Location: Remote

Twinkl Phonics is proud to have recently gained validation from the DfE, and as a result we are looking to recruit passionate, experienced phonics teachers to join our Content Writer team. As a Content Writer for Phonics, you’ll be joining a team of passionate professionals working flexibly to write content for Twinkl’s Phonics product. This excellent team creates and updates a wide range of creative, inclusive and diverse resources to support the teaching of Phonics.

The successful candidate will have a strong, current working knowledge of the teaching of synthetic phonics in an English school setting and will also have current or recent experience as a teacher with whole class responsibility in EYFS and/or Key Stage 1.

You will use your knowledge and experience to develop resources and your content will be turned into a finished product for Twinkl by our highly skilled design team.

This role is suitable for those working part-time in the classroom. We are looking for people who can complete their Twinkl work on two weekdays during office hours.

Your weekly activity could include:

• Creating innovative new resources to support the teaching and learning of Phonics.
• Producing resources which respond to customer needs and current teaching approaches.
• Meeting with other members of the team to discuss and develop new ideas.
• Working alongside a team of highly skilled designers and illustrators to ensure resources fully meet the needs of teachers and educators.

The role of Content Writer is varied and exciting. You will be working on different resources depending on the needs of our customers and this can change quickly. As part of the product development team, you will have close contact with other writers, and our team of Editors, Designers and Illustrators will bring your creations to life before they then appear on the website.

To succeed in the role, you will:

• Have at least 2 years’ current or recent experience of teaching as a qualified classroom teacher with full class responsibility within EYFS and/or Key Stage 1.
• Have a sound, current, working knowledge of different approaches to the teaching of synthetic phonics as well as changes in policy and guidance.
• Bring fresh ideas and a good insight into what teachers want and need, and how to execute this.
• Be able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines and timescales.
• Be a fantastic communicator who thrives when working in a close-knit team.
• Have detailed and up-to-date knowledge of the National Curriculum in England.
• Be prepared to confidently work between different IT platforms, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and G Suite.
• Understand the teaching community in England, knowing their unique pressures and current educational trends.
• Have a drive for continuous professional development.
• Need a reliable computer or laptop with a fast broadband speed (if remote) – you will be responsible for maintenance/repairs, etc.
• Have excellent spelling, punctuation and grammar skills.

In this role, you will learn:

• How to work as part of an Agile Production team.
• How to use your teaching experiences to create Twinkl approved resources for educators across the world.

You’ll be working with:

• Becki Porter (Phonics Product Owner)
• Your own direct Line Manager who will be confirmed if you are successful.
• Our team of qualified teachers who currently write, edit and produce content for the Twinkl Phonics scheme.
• Our amazing in-house design and illustration teams, collaborating daily to produce the beautiful, polished resources that Twinkl are known for.
