Job Description

Who are NCL ?

Research Assistant

      Salary: £28,331 – £29,176 per annum, pro rata

      You will assist the Promoting Effective And Rapid Stroke care (PEARS) team with a recently awarded NIHR PGfAR programme development grant (PDG). You will be working under supervision by, and direction from the PDG co-applicants (all experienced Pis), with Prof PM White taking the lead supervisory role. The PEARS programme has already had a substantial impact and influence upon NHS stroke services, particularly in England. There are four main components to the project and you will be heavily involved with three of those – supporting modelling of stroke service provision including health economic modelling led by Dr Allen & McKinney particularly including assisting Dr McKinney with refinement of an online tool of the model aimed at stroke networks and commissioners; development of a community of practice group for stroke thrombectomy (led by Profs White/Ford/James). You will also take a major support role to Dr Flynn/Prof Price in health care professional and PCPEI focus groups as a qualitative research initiative to inform and then promote optimal stroke services (via the community of practice).

      You will be provided with academic and pastoral support within the Institute (including counselling on career goals and opportunities) and training will be available which is designed to develop your competences and to prepare you to take on more responsibilities associated with a higher grade.

      Thiepost is available on a part time 54% FTE (20 hours per week), fixed term basis to 31/05/2022.

      Key Account abilities
      Liaise with research colleagues and support staff on day-to-day issues Co-ordinate own work with that of others in the PDG, deal with problems which may affect the achievement of research objectives and contribute to the planning of the project Present information on progress and outcomes to the steering group overseeing the research project including working to deadlines they may set Contribution to the research programme of the Institute under the guidance of the Principal Investigators May provide guidance as required to any support staff and/or research students

      Knowledge, Skills and Experience
      Good level of analytical skills and the ability to communicate complex information clearly, both orally and through the written word The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues The ability to use personal initiative and creativity to solve research problems Experience of health services research and some exposure to stroke The ability to write up results from own activity and provide input into the research project’s dissemination, in whatever form

      Qualifications
      Good honours degree (or equivalent) with some subject knowledge in the relevant area (stroke). Non-graduates will be expected to have other equivalent qualifications or relevant experience
